Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was an Indian spiritual leader and founder of the Transcendental Meditation technique. He was born on January 12, 1917, in Jabalpur, India, and passed away on February 5, 2008, in Vlodrop, Netherlands. After completing his degree in Physics at Allahabad University, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi became a disciple of Swami Brahmananda Saraswati, the Shankaracharya of Jyotir Math. He spent thirteen years with his guru, studying the ancient Vedic scriptures and deepening his understanding of meditation. In 1955, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi began to teach the Transcendental Meditation technique, which he had developed based on his knowledge of the Vedic scriptures.
